Durango to Salt Lake City
Today started early with a continental breakfast at the hotel in Durango, CO. We headed out with the rising sun and moved west to the Moab Desert. The scenery changed from mountainous with green fields to red rocks surrounded by a multicolored desert. We went into Arches National Park to explore the naturally occurring rock formations. The group got off the buses at two different formations. Sand Dune Arch had a cool, fine sand to walk on, while the red sandstone protruded up through it creating cracks to adventure in, and an arch to pass through. George couldnʼt believe how cold the sand felt on his feet. Broken Arch was down a long but flat hike where several travelers saw lizards roaming their natural habitat. Once we got to the arch they got to take pictures with a beautiful back drop, hang out in the shade, and climb around on the rocks. As we approached Broken Arch, Kate said “this is really cool and beautiful!”
After several hours had passed and lots of naps taken, we crested a hill into Salt Lake City where we caught a view of the Great Salt Lake. After checking into the hotel and freshening up, the group headed to dinner at Bucca De Beppo Italian restaurant. The group was served salad, spaghetti, Alfredo, chicken parmesan, and cheesecake in a family style fashion. Phenomenal Italian dinner! We walked back to the hotel with full bellies and satisfied appetites all the way around!
