From Alcatraz to Fireworks, A Full Day in San Francisco: Day 20

San Francisco, CA

Today was a San Francisco day through and through: history, iconic views, candy stops, and fireworks to end it all.

We started the morning with a boat ride out to Alcatraz, where the group took the audio tour and learned what life was like for the prisoners who lived there. The tour was powerful, reflective, and sparked great conversations. One especially memorable moment: many students had the chance to get a book signed by a former prisoner, who was onsite sharing his story.

From there, we made a much more lighthearted stop, Applebee’s for lunch, where Watts was beyond thrilled to introduce everyone to his favorite restaurant.

Later, we walked across the Golden Gate Bridge, taking in the stunning views of the Bay and skyline. Many students celebrated their crossing with a stop at a candy shop in Sausalito for some post-walk treats.

Dinner plans varied by group, some grabbed pizza, others opted for Mexican food, and nearly everyone ended up with Ghirardelli ice cream to enjoy while watching the fireworks light up the Bay.

From historic landmarks to sweet treats and big skies, today was packed with classic California memories.
