Hop on, the tour of a lifetime!

After lots of laughter at the kickoff event last night, the kids are on the road towards their first stop of this epic road trip, Churchill Downs, KY. 

The theme song for this year’s journey is “On the Road Again” by Willie Nelson. We play it every morning when the bus first departs. It won’t be long before everyone is singing along! 

Upon arriving at Churchill Downs we began our guided tour in the Kentucky Derby Museum. Students learned about the history of America’s most famous horserace course. After watching an exciting live horse race we walked to the theater. Inside the 365 degree surround screen theater we learned about the past championship and the annual Kentucky Derby. 

Shortly after departing Churchill Downs, the buses took us to our home of the night at the Hampton Inn. Students dropped off their luggage, had a moment in their rooms, and we headed to Joe Huber’s Farm-family-style restaurant. During dinner we all put our phones away and got to know each other a little better. Our students got to explore all that Huber Farm had to offer: playground, deck by the pond, basketball court, and more! It was a busy first day; we sang and laughed our way back to the hotel. 

Tomorrow, we will visit the Gateway Arch and an incredible steamboat tour in St. Louis, MO!
