Today with The Grand Western Tour, we officially made it to Texas, and it welcomed us with cool water and even better company.
After an early departure, we drove through the morning and afternoon, stopping on the road for lunch. The bus ride was high energy from the jump, with a collaborative playlist going and just about everyone singing along at the top of their lungs.
We rolled into Balmorhea State Park around 3:30, and what a spot. The park is home to a natural spring fed pool that runs 20 feet deep and is full of fish swimming right alongside you. We spent a great afternoon swimming, and there were some seriously impressive dives, flips, and a few memorable flops off the big diving board.

The moment of the day, though, belongs to Ann. Meg lost her Apple Watch in the pool, and Ann was brave enough to dive all the way down and retrieve it from the bottom. Something tells us she has found a new skill.
After the park, we drove another hour to our hotel in Fort Stockton, where we had dinner at Dickey’s Barbecue before heading to Dairy Queen for dessert. When in Texas, right?
Tomorrow we set our sights on San Antonio, where the Alamo and a haunted hotel are waiting for us. Should be an interesting one. Until then!
