2023 Session One

Its Beauty Cannot be Exaggerated, Even by Texans

Alamogordo, NM to Sonora, TX

It’s so hard to believe we’re down to our final few days of the 2023 Tour! Today we woke up in Alamogordo, had breakfast, then boarded the bus for Texas. It was another long travel day as we make our way back East, but we enjoyed hanging out together and talking after we got our morning naps in.

Later in the afternoon we made it to Sonora, TX, home to some incredible caverns. They told us about how they had been discovered by a man going after his dog who had chased a raccoon into a hole. That hole turned out to be one of the most spectacular caverns in the country. We broke into small groups and got a guided tour of the cave system. It was so cool to see the rock formations up close and explore the underground world.

After the caverns, we went to our hotel in Sonora where we were on our own for dinner in the small town. Some had Mexican, some went for pizza, and others opted for Sonic. We then had free time at the hotel the rest of the evening to hang out and prep for tomorrow.

FUN FACT OF THE DAY: The difference between stalagmite and stalactite cave formations is that stalagmites grow UP from the ground, and stalactites grow DOWN from the ceiling.
