Locks, Markets, and a Mariners Win: A Big Day in Seattle

Today with The Grand Western Tour was a busy one, and Seattle packed in just about everything.

We started with a little driving tour around the city, stopping first at the Ballard Locks to see the salmon ladder, a clever system that helps salmon migrate back upstream to lay their eggs. From there we visited the old Gas Works, an early and transformative source of power for the city. The moment we spotted a playground at Gas Works Park, though, it was game over. Before you could blink, everyone was climbing ropes and swinging on the swings. And when our hop on hop off bus tour guide unfortunately fell through, Chase stepped right up, sharing some genuinely educational info about the city, orcas, and local marine life as we drove around.

Next up was Pike Place Market, an incredible spot full of fresh produce, international food stalls, books, vintage finds, and crafts. Everyone ate so well, and there were a couple of firsts to celebrate: Wood tried crepes for the first time, and JP had his very first taste of Thai food.

From there, we walked over to the Space Needle, where rotating glass floors and an outdoor balcony gave us sweeping views of the city and the perfect backdrop for some silly selfies. We even spotted yet another playground from way up high, which meant one more climbing session before heading back. Two playgrounds in one day is a new record!

After a brief rest, we headed to the baseball game to catch the Angels take on the Mariners. It happened to be a special dog-friendly night, so the stands were full of furry little fans in cute costumes. The Mariners won, and being part of a sea of blue and green cheering on the home team was so much fun. We watched a beautiful sunset over the stadium as the seagulls circled and everyone filed out.

Tomorrow, we set our sights on Oregon, and we will not lie, we are all looking forward to some warmer weather. Onward!
